The Power of Community

This was another day following the footsteps of Jesus around the Sea of Gallilee. One difference to this day was how it started-communion at the Mount of the Beatitudes. It was incredibly moving to sit in the picturesque place and celebrate the Lords Supper. Our group read Scripture, shared the meal and then we sang. We sang and the group of Mexicans from Mexico City were on our right side singing and another group celebrated mass on our left side. A few yards from us a Canadian group sang praise songs. There was a sense of the whole world coming together around the communion celebration, the living and the departed, all the saints that were, are and are to come were brought together for a few moments this day.

It was also memorable to travel to Bethsaida where some archeological work was going on. There were no complete buildings, but the work had begun to reconstruct some of the houses and a rough idea of how the community was laid out could be seen. Just imagine, some of the early disciples likely came from this little town! On top of that, this little place is the third most mentioned place in the gospels. This visit served to re-establish the reality of the gospel accounts.

The food has been wonderful and plentiful. Please keep us in your prayers as Fran and I walk off some calories.

shalom and lila tov, David
